The fact that Prison Break hottie Wentworth Miller is gay has always been sort of known around Hollywood, since the guy has never really hid it nor has he ever stepped forward denying the fact. But when the St. Petersburg International Film Festival invited him as a guest, Miller officially came out, saying that he’d never travel to Russia given their strict, anti-gay laws. TMZ reports …
“Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline.” Miller continues … “I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.” He added, “If circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.”
Well, good for him for being officially out (“officially” now meaning “it was posted on TMZ“) and for taking a stand on Russia’s anti-gay laws, which Hollywood has been decidedly silent about. I mean really, you’d figure with the amount of movies that feature Russia as an international enemy, this would be a lateral move at best. It’s like Rocky IV never even happened with you people!
