In an unprecedented casting choice, Prada, the international luxury brand, has named Tobey Maguire of Spiderman fame, as the face of their Fall/Winter Men’s 2011 campaign. Maguire posed for David Sims, the acclaimed fashion photographer, in a series of moody prints more reminiscent of his acting roots than high fashion, in a session that was shot in New York. Mr. Maguire sports several different ensembles throughout the campaign, primarily sweaters and outerwear, to which the Fall/Winter lines of every label focus on at this time of year. On the partnership he commented on his admiration for label head Miuccia Prada to Vogue: “Miuccia Prada has inspired a culture of creativity that is woven through every aspect of her company, from her collections, her campaigns, to every design in her stores. I have such admiration for her artistry and I’m thrilled to be a part of Prada’s fall campaign.” A statement from Prada acknowledged that this specific line is “an intimate character study” which Maguire’s “mood” fit perfectly. Though an unorthodox choice, with study the decision almost makes sense, exhibiting a unique and harmonious collaboration.
