The Oscars’ Best Original Song shortlist is out!

Yes, The 85th Academy Awards are just around the corner, and the list of potential nominees for Best Original Song is out. Despite it being called a shortlist, the thing is like 75 items long, so we’re going to make this as brief as we possibly can. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Among the artists included in the shortlist are Adele for “Skyfall” from the James Bond pic; Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” from her 3D concert film; Keith Urban’s “For You” from Act of Valor; Mumford & Sons, who teamed up with Birdy for “Learn Me Right” from Brave; Arcade Fire for their song from The Hunger Games‘ soundtrack, “Abraham’s Daughter”; and Dolly Parton’s “Here to the Moon and Back” in Joyful Noise. Additionally, the new song from Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables, “Suddenly,” penned by legends Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, has made the list.

Also up for The Oscar: The Arcade Fire, Karen O, Rick Ross and Florence + The Machine, which makes this one of the most wide-open categories ever. Personally, I have my money on Adele, because “Skyfall” really is a stroke of genius.
