The ABCs of Death

The ABCs of Death

Because the media is still obsessed with last night’s Super Bowl — Grown men threw a ball up and down a field for three hours. That’s not news. Go back to covering Kim Kardashian‘s pregnancy like you’re supposed to! — it’s a pretty slow news day today. So I’m going to turn lemons into delicious lemonade by letting you know that you can catch The ABCs of Death on VOD or iTunes right now!

I actually caught it last night, and as a horror movie fan? I really loved it. Basically, the concept is that 26 filmmakers were given a letter of the alphabet, and had to come up with a word associated with death and make a short movie around that word. The words are presented at the end of each vignette, so you get to guess what each thematic word is which adds another layer of fun to the proceedings. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a good framing device, but I really did enjoy this one, especially the letters A, D, Q, W and X. Here’s the Red Band trailer below if you want a quick peak at it.

Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs OF DEATH is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

Provocative, shocking, funny and ultimately confrontational, THE ABCs OF DEATH is the definitive vision of modern horror diversity. Drafthouse Films, Magnet Pictures and Timpson Films are proud to present this alphabetical arsenal of destruction orchestrated by what Fangoria calls “a stunning roll call of some of the most exciting names in horror across the world.”
