That Kate Middleton prank call went horribly wrong

Yesterday, the web was all abuzz after Australian radio DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian managed to prank call Kate Middleton‘s hospital and convinced a nurse to connect them to Kate’s room. I wrote it off because I assumed it was a stupid prank by a couple of shock jocks, except this morning, reports have flooded the web that one of the nurses involved, Jacintha Saldanha, allegedly committed suicide this morning, now the two dumbass DJs have gone into hiding. Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns the station, has released a statement … saying, “SCA and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward VII’s Hospital.” SCA says the CEO has spoken with both of the DJs … who are both “deeply shocked” over the tragedy. The company adds, “SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy.”

All right, I know a lot of people are coming down on the dumbass shock jocks, and to be honest, I can’t say that I blame them. That being said, I don’t think they ever intended for things to get this bad. I think they were just playing a dumb prank, things went way farther than they could have ever planned. Legally? I have no idea if they did anything wrong, because I’m not much of a lawyer. Morally? They f–ked up, and this is something they’ll have to live with for the rest of their lives. Consider this a lesson kids: I’m sure you think the dumb trolling you do on the internet is harmless, but every once in a while, things go wrong, and you could end up having to live with something like this on your conscience.
