TelevisionBytes: Things are getting scary on TV!

It’s October, which means things are getting scary on TV, and nothing is more scary than the strange bubble surrounding Michaele and Tareq Salahi, stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of DC. Before becoming reality stars, the two famously crashed a White House State Dinner last year, causing a media frenzy that both fascinated and repulsed the nation. It was a stir captured amusingly on the Bravo series, which wrapped up its first season with the infamous incident, followed by the reactions of the cast. Needless to say, no one was particularly amused by the perceived stunt, and it looks like the claws will truly be coming out this week for the show’s reunion special. Things always get hairy when the Housewives get together with Andy Cohen, but when fellow cast mate Lynda questions Michaele’s recent announcement that she suffers from MS, we’re sure to get some fireworks.

Similarly explosive has been Jersey Shore, which has seen less fisticuffs in its second season but certainly more in-house drama. First we had Angelina‘s turbulent departure, which was preceded by an instant-classic tussle with Snooki. Most recently, however, it was Mike (a.k.a. The Situation) who caused the greatest, er, situation in the house. First he tried to steal Vinny‘s girl, then he tried to pull Snooki et al out of the club. The actions were not appreciated by those around him, and from what we can tell, it looks like we’ll be headed for a major confrontation sooner rather than later.

Also heating up is NBC’s veteran reality show The Apprentice, which is seeing lagging ratings in its seventh season. No surprise: the network barely promoted the show, which is too bad considering it’s been so good. Once again, board room pitbull Mahsa eviscerated an opponent and reminded us in the process how much we love watching the sharks go at it, all in the hopes of impressing Mr. Trump. Scary indeed.
