This past Friday night I scored a ticket at the last minute to catch Tegan and Sara‘s sold out show down at Club Nokia. Although these adorable and talented Canadian twin sisters have been around for years now (their first independent release was back in 1999), I never had a chance to see them play live. As of lately I’ve been completely and utterly obsessed with their stellar seventh studio album, Heartthrob, which just dropped last week (now available on iTunes), and I knew I simply had to attend this show!
The fairly intimate downtown venue was completely packed with plenty of longtime fans and new ones (many rocking the Tegan and Sara haircut), the energy and excitement in the room was palpable! About an hour before the girls took to the stage, I was invited backstage for a quick meet and greet, but my nerves ended up getting the best of me and I managed to only briefly meet Sara (photo proof below), who was so sweet. I told her fantastic their new album was and also recommended the track “How Come You Don’t Want Me” (which you can listen to below) to be the album’s next single!
Once the show kicked off a little past 10pm the girls played a perfect mix of old and new material, people were dancing and singing along to practically every song, both Tegan and Sara played their hearts out, there’s a bunch of great pictures over on L.A. RECORD. While taking in the show, that’s when I spotted John Mayer and Katy Perry canoodling and enjoying themselves, which lead me to writing this post the very next day, I didn’t realize how rabid some of her fans on Twitter can be!
All in all, it turned out to be an excellent evening (I even randomly ran into someone from high school), Tegan and Sara are now touring to support the new release, check out the dates over on their website (they’re also playing at Coachella in April). Finally, please don’t miss out on Heartthrob, it easily landed an early spot in my top favorite albums of 2013 list, it’s perfectly crafted pop music at its very best!
