For some reason, Disney decided to release the trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (in theaters December 18, 2015) over the Thanksgiving weekend, when most (if not all) of the web was away. Actually, fun fact: I ended up working Thanksgiving,as well as most of the weekend in retail. I’m in friggin’ Canada, and I can’t tell you how many people still use American Thanksgiving as an excuse to go insane with sales. Anyway, now that we’re back to our regular schedule, let’s talk about this.
My partner and I actually sat down to watch this, and we both appreciate the Star Wars movies in different ways: He saw them when they first came out, and I saw them as a 90’s kid, and then saw the prequel trilogy as a teenager. We both agreed that the teaser shows promise. For starters, it actually looks like they filmed on location rather than getting a bunch of actors and having them sit in front a green screen. There’s actually diversity in the cast, the overall atmosphere feels lighter than the prequel trilogy, and as far as I can tell, the plot doesn’t revolve around needless bureaucracy. So I guess in summation, get hype, but not too hype for now.
