After a less than pivotal year for already struggling Showtime sitcoms, one of the more critically acclaimed ones will be saying goodbye. United States of Tara, helmed by actress and singer Toni Collette, is on its last leg, according to the cable network. The decision to pull the plug is something of a surprise, the show was created by Diablo Cody, Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody I might add, from an idea put forth by none other than Steven Spielberg. Even more surprising is that the role is Emmy and Golden Globe winning, as Collette snagged up one of each for her portrayal of Tara (a mother with multiple personality disorder). When one looks at the ratings, only then does the decision make sense, though the show premiered three years ago to strong viewership, the ratings have slumped sharply since, garnering only roughly 400,000 viewers on average this season. Other Showtime shows are still going strong, Nurse Jackie will continue as well as seasoned favorite Weeds and Californication.
