I enjoy Rooney Mara because she’s socially awkward and wore Nina Ricci on a red carpet once. That sounds fickle but I have no idea what else to judge my love for her on besides Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (her performance was nominated last year for a Best Actress Oscar). Don’t get me wrong; Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was good. Well, as good as a film can be with source material like that but, she fell off the face of the earth afterwards.
Fortunately, Mara has two films coming out this year, Steven Soderbergh‘s Side Effects and Spike Jonze‘s Her, so the promo machine has started churning. First on her list—Vogue. The cover is creepily patriotic. It’s not even July so why are we being bombarded with red, white, and blue? I didn’t know spring fashion was such a whole-heartedly American tradition.
Anyway, Mara looks great in her spread and the lace Calvin Klein Collection dress that she wears twice—in red on the cover and black in the spread—is so her. Rooney’s interview leaves a lot to be desired, for instance calling herself schizophrenic because she worked on so many films, but then again, I never really liked her for her barely-there personality.
