Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour, which kicked off in Buffalo, NY earlier this month, is quite the feast for the eyes. I’m sure the stage is exciting but I’m strictly talking fashion here. In recent memory, it seems that most pop stars link up with a designer for their tours and Ms. Fenty is no different. Her choice? Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy.
Since Tisci took over Givenchy in 2005, he’s been credited with reinvigorating the brand with his dark and graphic, yet contemporary aesthetic. In fact, any glimpse at his recent runway shows seem like a perfect fit for Rihanna’s latest era.
In what can only be described as an elevation of Rihanna’s street style, Tisci has taken the singer to the next level in stunning couture pieces such as a hand embroidered parka that she wears in the opening of the show.
Under the parka, Rihanna sports a leather bra and the high-waisted shorts that she’s become known for. Coupled with the chunky gold accessories she invokes Tisci’s work with another pop megastar—Madonna.
Tisci had this to say about working with the star, “I enjoyed making these looks, Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty. Rihanna has what every girl aspires to have. She is the face of her generation.”
Since his tenure as creative director began, Tisci has actively sought to bring Givenchy to a younger audience and by teaming up with Rihanna, he only strengthens his hold as one of the coolest designers of our generation.
