There is very sad news to report today, one of my favorite actresses, Karen Black, passed away earlier today from cancer at the age of 74. Although she starred in well over 100 movies (mainly in the 60s and 70s but she did work up until last year) including Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces (which scored her an Oscar nomination) and Nashville, there are two classic and campy horror movies I loved as a kid that she starred in, Burnt Offerings (1976) and Trilogy of Terror (1975). There was something offbeat and a bit kooky about Karen that I simply adored, plus she always managed to play really interesting and often quirky characters. Luckily I got to see her perform in a small musical here in Los Angeles back in 2007 at the Second Stage Theatre, and it was thrilling to see her up close and personal, she is definitely someone I won’t soon forget, she will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Karen’s family and friends during this difficult time. May Karen finally be resting in peace.
