Last week I was able to catch the first six episodes of the upcoming Netflix original series, Orange Is The New Black (from the creator of Showtime’s Weeds, Jenji Kohan), and I knew I heard a familiar voice during the opening credits! It turned out to be one of my favorites, Regina Spektor who penned a brand-new original song for the show called “You’ve Got Time,” (iTunes) which you can listen to below!
“When we met in New York, Jenji painted such an exciting and clear picture of the series that I started to hear some ideas right away. Jenji has a way of putting so much humor and heart into her work that by the time I was sent a few episodes I was completely hooked on all the stories. It’s a unique and great series – and I’m so glad she invited me to be a part of it!” – Regina Spektor
Not only does this song kick ass, but the series does as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a show about a woman’s year-long experience in prison (based on Piper Kerman‘s best-selling memoir) but I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I loved it, it’s totally my new favorite show. This coming Thursday (July 11th) all thirteen episodes will be available for streaming, and thankfully the series has already been picked up for a second season, definitely great news! After the massive success of House of Cards, I think Netflix has another huge hit on their hands, Orange Is The New Black is fantastic on so many levels, the cast alone is amazing, for sure don’t miss out on this hilarious and touching series.
