In an interview with GQ magazine, Winona Ryder talked about her past in Hollywood and about a run-in with Mel Gibson from 15 years ago. Spoiler alert! Even then he was a homophobic, anti-semitic prick. I know, right? I’m as shocked as you are. He always seemed like such a level-headed and loving person.
A Mel Gibson anecdote: “I remember, like, fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And he was really drunk. I was with my friend, who’s gay. He made a really horrible gay joke. And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about ‘oven dodgers,’ but I didn’t get it. I’d never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment. I was like, ‘He’s anti-Semitic and he’s homophobic.’ No one believed me!” SOURCE
So this was back in, what, 1995? If my recollection of the 90’s is as accurate as I think it is, chances are the conversation had a bunch of really racist pop culture references.

The voices in my head tell me they’re going to hell anyway! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go yell at my wife about how she has to blow me before she can play Pokemon, or I’ll snap her Pikachu’s little homo neck.”
