UPDATE: Kelis’ new song is actually called “Jerk Ribs,” not “Call On Me”
I’ve been patiently waiting for new music from Kelis, and we finally have something that mysteriously appeared online this past weekend. It’s called “Call On Me” “Jerk Ribs,” and is once again a different direction for Kelis. She definitely knows how to shake up her style and image, her last album Flesh Tone (2010) was a totally tight dance party that was superbly produced, and now here she is getting a bit more jazzy with a retro soul / R&B vibe. Apparently she has signed with guitarist and record producer Dave Sitek‘s label Federal Prism, and should be releasing more new material later this year. It’s hard to believe Kelis first appeared on the scene fifteen years ago with the release of Kaleidoscope (1998), I’ve been a fan ever since, I’m super excited to hear more from her hopefully very soon.
PS Here’s a video interview I did with Kelis back in 2009!
