Normally, when a story breaks at 5PM on a Friday, it’s usually because someone is trying to avoid a whole bunch of bad PR and they figure that two days of nothing will magically wipe it from our memory. (See: NBC firing Dan Harmon, too many celebrity divorces to count!) Sometimes, it’s Lindsay Lohan getting into a car accident, because LiLo’s driving skills fall somewhere between “sugared-up kid in a bumper car” and “your five-year-old brother driving Toad into the wall in Mario Kart”. Anyway, here’s the story so far: Lindsay’s little rental car collides with a goddamn truck on the PCH. Both sides blame each other for the accident, although only Lohan has a documented history of being death on wheels. Lindsay goes to the hospital, and then leaves almost immediately afterwards. Now Lindsay is claiming that the brakes were cut, because nothing is ever her fault. TMZ reports:
As TMZ first reported, in the moments following the accident, Lindsay claimed the semi-truck cut her off … and that is what caused the accident. The driver of the truck told TMZ that was not the case and has witnesses to back up his tale. According to our sources, Lindsay is sticking with the “truck cut me off!!!” story, but with a twist … she claims she slammed on the brakes … but nothing. And get this … somehow Lindsay says she was told the brakes on the rental were replaced two days before the crash. Lindsay is telling people she feels lucky to be alive, having only suffered cuts and bruises … no serious injuries.
I’m not going to outright say that Lindsay is to blame for this, but honestly? Given her history when it comes to driving? It kind of makes you think. Whether or not those thoughts are something along the lines of “Lindsay Lohan will one day turn me into mulch beneath her tires” is entirely a matter of personal opinion.
UPDATE VIA TMZ: Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … Lindsay Lohan lied to cops Friday by telling them she was NOT driving the Porsche that slammed into a truck on the Pacific Coast Highway, and as a result she could be prosecuted and her probation could be revoked. Our sources say, when Lindsay was in the hospital getting checked out after the accident, cops from the Santa Monica Police Dept. paid a visit. Lindsay told police she was a passenger in the Porsche and her assistant was driving. But the lie didn’t stick because later Lindsay’s assistant told police Lindsay was behind the wheel.
