The latest addition to the Forever series of U.S. stamps features an iconic American image, the Statue of Liberty, but is it really her? The answer is no, the actual face depicted on the stamp is fashioned after the famous statue’s replica in Las Vegas, outside of the New York, New York Casino. The USPS didn’t pick up on the switch up until a story was run in a popular stampers magazine called Linn’s Stamp News. Though strikingly similar in appearance, apparently there are a few differences including in the shape of the eye and a contrasting head of hair. The switch is proving beneficial for Las Vegas tourism, but is slighting to the original in New York. Either way, the stamps will be out soon.
