So apparently, Katy Perry made a little comment on Twitter about how artists who use product placement are lazy, hinting at the new Britney Spears‘ Hold It Against Me video. Well, apparently someone reminded Katy that she has a metric assload of corporate sponsors too, because she turned right back around and said that product placement makes videos BETTER! And this message was brought to you by the delicious taste of Coke Zero! Real Coke taste, now with less chances of birth defects!
In a series of posts on her Twitter page, Perry writes, “Please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, their roles in vids & the art of them being complimenting or sticking out. Most, if not ALL popsters welcome deals w/products to offset costs of big budget vids in these recessional music industry times.”
“I’ve used them in MY vids before & am happy to be able to make a better vid because of (product placement). Once AGAIN, stop pitting artists against artist for ur (your) sensational satisfaction.” SOURCE
Sure, you can say there are PLENTYOFFISH.COM out there, so an artist doesn’t have sell their message like it’s on EBAY, but there are plenty of GAPs in music videos that can only be filled with various pieces of AMERICAN APPAREL and gadgets. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to pay off my rent with all the money I just raked in. Cha-ching!
