A couple weeks back at the Grammys, singer Katy Perry released a new song called Part Of Me — well, she released the same song she always does, only with slightly different lyrics and a faster beat — and everyone shit themselves because it was a breakup song that came on the heels of her own divorce with Russell Brand. Anyway, Katy now wants you all to know that she did not in fact lift a page from the Taylor Swift playbook, and that she actually just wrote the song two years ago and decided to release it now that she and Russell were done. Entirely different. The Daily Mail reports:
Katy said: ‘I wrote Part of Me two years ago and I always knew that Part of Me was a special song. ‘It feels like my life plays out with these songs. I feel like I’m in some kind of weird Truman Show where I’m like, ‘Why is this single appropriate now and it wouldn’t have been appropriate then?’ It’s just so crazy.’ The blue-haired star added: ‘I guess the universe is kind of – we’re kind of like, dancing together in some weird way.
See? She didn’t write a song about Russell! She just wrote a generic break-up song and then sat on it until she was able to come up with an appropriate time to play it, which is entirely different. In the sense that the intention is exactly the same, but she just chose a lazier way to get a dig in. To be fair, considering I keep recycling the same potshots when it comes to making fun of Kim Kardashian for being a piss-soaked opportunist, I really can’t point fingers.
