Jennifer Lawrence didn’t insult Meryl Streep

Jennifer Lawrence

If, like me, you watched the Golden Globes live, you probably remember Jennifer Lawrence‘s acceptance speech, and how her first words when she held her trophy were “what does it say? ‘I beat Meryl!'” Hopefully, you have good taste in movies and realized that it was a reference to The First Wives Club, when Bette Midler finds Goldie Hawn‘s Oscar. Except some people, like professional smart person Lindsay Lohan, didn’t know that and acted like it was a slam on Meryl Streep

So here’s Jennifer explaining that IT WAS A QUOTE FROM A MOVIE, YOU DUMBASS. Via HuffPo

When Lawrence found out what was happening online, she was stunned. “I was like, is that what this turned into? I don’t like Meryl Streep?” she said. “As if I’ve had my eyes on getting that girl forever and I was like, ‘Finally! I knew it would happen one day!'” Lawrence added that Streep is her favorite actress.

I like how, in a society that does nothing but rehash movie quotes at each other and look things up on their iPhones, Jennifer actually had to sit everyone down and explain that it was a joke. Oh lord, there are some powerfully stupid people out there.
