So apparently supermodel Gisele Bündchen managed to piss of a bunch of people by saying she doesn’t use sunscreen because it’s full of chemicals. Which sort of sounds borderline paranoid until you realize it is actually true.
“I cannot put this poison on my skin,” Bundchen — who has appeared in ad campaigns for Nivea Sun products — said at the launch of her own organic skin care range, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. “I do not use anything synthetic.” Instead, the leggy beauty says she protects herself from sun damage by only exposing herself to rays before 8 A.M. This of course sounds like a full load of crazy from another random celebrity, until you realize that 92% of sunscreens are ineffective at protecting you from the sun, and most only protect you from UVB rays which cause sunburn, not UVA rays that cause melanoma. It turns out the only really surefire way to protect yourself is to stay out of the sun from 11 AM to 3 PM, which is exactly what Gisele said.
