fraggle rock coming to the big screen!

oh my gosh everyone this is possibly the best news i’ve had all month! (sad but true) i loved jim henson‘s television show fraggle rock as a kid (i remember it being on HBO – it premiered in 1983 and ran for five seasons w/ 96 episodes) it looks like the much beloved series will be finally making its way to the big screen! it’s in development with ahmet zappa who wants to make ‘a full-length live-action musical fantasy’ with those lovable fraggles! oh man this is so exciting – i can’t wait to see wembley, gobo, mokey, boober & red in something new and fresh (and let’s not forget the gorgs, the doozers, and best of all marjory the trash heap) as long as they remain true to the original series – i really hope it doesn’t turn into fraggle wreck…everyone please keep your pop fingers crossed! popbytes over & out for tonight – xxoo!

“The Fraggles didn’t really get into the human world on the series, so we plan to make the movie more about the intersection between the Fraggles and the humans,” Lisa Henson said.

Zappa is informally talking to musician friends about writing original songs for the movie. The original Henson puppets will be refurbished and updated for the film, with little expectation of computer-generated enhancements.

A release date has yet to be determined. Lisa Henson plans to hire a screenwriter and director once an initial treatment is completed.

“We’re taking the movie as far as we can independently because the company has a big personal investment in how the movie turns out,” she said.
