filmbytes: jennifer lawrence, gold and blue

Remember when we’d never heard of Carey Mulligan or Kristen Stewart? The Hollywood machine is always on and churning out new stars. You may have seen one just this weekend at INCEPTION. How about that Tom Hardy as ‘The Forger’, anyway? He totally stole the movie! (He’ll soon take over Mel Gibson‘s star-making role in the next Mad Max movie.) You might not have heard of 19-year-old Jennifer Lawrence yet but by this time next year, she’ll be a familiar name. She’s currently wowing audiences in the gritty drama WINTER’S BONE in which she plays a resilient teenager searching for her criminal father. Unfortunately she’s just about the only person that wants him found. The movie has been collecting passionate fans and healthy box office for a month now in limited release. Since her character is continually bruised and freezing, Winter’s Bone doesn’t exactly capitalize on Jennifer’s considerable beauty but her next film will, albeit in a creepy way. She’s taking over Rebecca Romijn‘s famously blue and naked “Mystique” role in the X-men prequel, X-Men: First Class. That superhero picture hits movie theaters next June. By that time, Ms. Lawrence may already be a bonafide celebrity. There’s already golden Oscar buzz for her Winter’s Bone breakthrough. If she does pull off that nomination (it’s still early) five months after her 20th birthday, she’ll be the second youngest Best Actress nominee ever. The youngest was 13-year-old Keisha Castle-Hughes from Whale Rider. Head over to Film Experience for more actresses and cinematic musings!
