Ellie Goulding just released her first single “Anything Could Happen” off of her forthcoming album Halcyon. Along with premiering the song on BBC Radio 1, she also uploaded a video on her YouTube account. It’s a lyric video that uses 1200 photos that were submitted to her by fans. It basically looks like an Instagram feed.
It’s strange how pop music works here in the United States. Just as Ellie’s single “Lights” is finally getting airplay and charting on the Billboard Hot 100 and recently reaching a peak of number two, she is preparing the release of her second album. Perhaps the current recognition of “Lights” will help her second album Halcyon exceed even further on the charts when its released on October 9th.
As for the song, “Anything Could Happen” is stellar. It’s everything you would expect from Ellie. Her roots are deep in folk, but it’s the electropop side of her that pulls you through the melodies. The chorus sounds gigantic and by the end of the song she is wailing (in the best way possible of course). Thankfully, her boyfriend Skrillex hasn’t inspired her to use any dubstep. I have a feeling this song will be on constant rotation here at PopBytes. Check out the song below.
