Elizabeth Taylor’s famous jewelry is on display at select galleries around the world, before 269 pieces are put up for sale at Christie’s New York, this December. There’s many pieces up for grabs including the Krupp Diamond, Peregrina Pearl, and the 69.4 carat pear shaped rock that became known as the Taylor-Burton Diamond. All in all Taylor’s estate included $30 million worth of jewels, while another $20 million could easily be raised from iconic gowns and memorabilia. Early estimates on the jewels could be far surpassed with fascination surrounding the star, a fortune is ready to be amassed and given to Taylor’s AIDS Foundation that she founded in 1991. Marc Porter, American chairman of Christie’s stated, “This collection is unlike anything we have offered before. It is a window on her life”, he also stated this auction “was a decision Elizabeth Taylor herself made a few years ago. She wanted someone new to enjoy them.” The collection doesn’t only include famous jewels Richard Burton bought and gave to Taylor, one diamond wristwatch was given to Elizabeth by close friend Michael Jackson. The collection is expected to literally travel the globe with stops in Dubai, Hong Kong, Geneva, Paris, and New York, before finally going up for sale. Head of jewelry at Christie’s America Rahul Kadakia calls this “the greatest jewelry collection that Christie’s has ever presented,” going on to state that Taylor had a great eye for jewelry.
