Drag Race: The Lost Season Ru-Vealed!

RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul’s Drag Race has been on the air for five seasons, six if you count All-Stars, but one of them has always been hidden in the shadows: The first season. Despite being a solid pilot season, it never made its way to DVD for reasons that were never really clarified (although the unifying theory seems to be that it was a matter of musical clearance issues.) Well, RuPaul announced today that she was bringing the lost season back to LOGO for a second viewing! Yay! Via NewNowNext

Ironically RuPaul’s Drag Race Season One hasn’t been available to fans to pore over and worship—until now: Starting September 30, Logo is bringing back the long-lost first season, when the sets were smaller, the queens were fewer, and Ru was barely visible through that 1,000-watt lens. “Back in the day, if anyone had told me that, in the year 2013, people would be clamoring to watch Season One, I would have insisted on better lighting!” exclaimed RuPaul. “That aside, I’m thrilled to share the trailblazing work of the ‘OG’ queens. It’s their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent that started a drag revolution.”

Yay! I actually already have season one on iTunes since it was the only place to find it, but I’d love to see the season return so that Bebe Zahara Benet, Tammie Brown, Nina Flowers, Akashia, Victoria “Porkchop” Parker, Shannel, Ongina, Jade and Rebecca Glasscock can all get a second chance to shine. And while you’re waiting for that, take a peak at RuPaul’s new webseries, RuPaul Drives, which features Mama Ru driving ‘celebrity’ guests around Los Angeles and offering her words of wisdom.
