Remember Daryl Hannah? She was in Splash and Kill Bill, but for some reason she’s kind of been out of the spotlight for a while – probably because Hollywood is deathly afraid of women over 40, unless they need someone to play a mother/prostitute/rape victim/any combination thereof (sidenote: if Hollywood ever makes My Mother, the Raped Prostitute, I demand royalties.) Anyway, according to the Wall Street Journal, Daryl was protesting a proposed oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. with a sit-in at the White House, and she got arrested. You know, for sitting.
Daryl Hannah was led away from the White House in handcuffs on Tuesday. The Splash star was arrested while protesting a proposal for an oil pipeline that would run from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. “We want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future,” Hannah told the Associated Press. The actress, who has been arrested for other environmental issues, reportedly refused the U.S. Park Police’s demand to move during a sit-down on the sidewalk outside the White House.
Look, regardless of your opinions on the matter, fact of the matter is she really wasn’t doing anything wrong or illegal here. That’s basically the point of non-violent protests: they get the message across without doing anything to harm anyone. I mean for fuck’s sake, she was sitting. SITTING. Yes, she didn’t cooperate with the police, but once again: she was only sitting down.
