more sad news! one of the greatest opera singers ever – beverly sills (nicknamed ‘bubbles’) passed away today at the age of 78 from lung cancer (just a few days ago word broke she was very ill) her rise to fame is such an interesting story – born in brooklyn in 1929 – ms. sills helped put america on the map when it came to the opera scene – i’m not a huge fan of opera but it is quite beautiful to listen to now and again – beverly retired from singing in 1980 (and continued to have an accomplished career in the arts – she even was chairman of the NYC’s metropolitan opera) below is a quote which shows her grace & elegance along with a video showcasing her incredible voice – ms. sills will be missed! popbytes over & out for now…xxoo
my voice had a long, nonstop career. it deserves to be put to bed with quiet and dignity, not yanked out every once in a while to see if it can still do what it used to do. it can’t. – beverly sills
