good evening! british renegade artist banksy‘s first official new york city show is now underway at the village pet store & charcoal grill in greenwich village on 7th avenue (open through october 31st) normally he’s known for his pranks & huge graffiti murals (done undercover and on the down low) that pop up in random places all over (like the let them eat crack rat murals that recently in appeared in NYC) but this time he’s experimenting with sculptures (like the sad tweety bird below) yet his keen sense of the surreal mixed with his eye-catching humor remains completely intact – things that totally make you go hmmm? i had the chance to see his barely legal show in los angeles back in 2006 which was amazing including the big elephant painted pink – pus he’s got celebrity clients such as brad pitt & angelina jolie who have bought a couple of pieces from him! there’s a bunch of pictures from the show below plus check out some videos (including one where sausages hump in an aquarium – which people complained about) popbytes over & out for tonight…xoxo
New Yorkers don’t care about art, they care about pets. So I’m exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. – Banksy
