the 51st grammy award nominations are in!
December 3, 2008 MICHAEL KNUDSEN

hey hey! tonight instead of the usual early morning nomination announcement – the 51st annual grammy award nominees were announced during a live concert that aired over on CBS (held in downtown los angeles) with a bunch of performances (including my darling celine dion doing a cover of janis ian‘s ‘at seventeen’) it turned out to be a better show than i thought but lordy – do they really need to have a pre-show like this? talk about stretching it out – it’s an awards show to get ready for another awards show – pure madness! (at least they kept it to just one hour) below you’ll find a sample of the nominations (here’s the full list) along with an embedded player courtesy of imeem – playing the five ‘song of the year’ nominees (i’m torn between coldplay‘s ‘viva la vida’ or adele‘s ‘chasing pavements’ – if forced to make a decision – i’d have to go with coldplay) the winners will be announced on february 8th – during a show that i’m sure will drag ass – the hype is always better than the actual ceremony! popbytes over & out for tonight…xoxo

Nominations for the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced tonight by The Recording Academy and reflected one of the most diverse years ever with the Album Of The Year category alone representing the rap, R&B, folk and rock genres.

Lil Wayne topped the nominations with eight, Coldplay garnered seven, and Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West each earned six nods. Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Robert Plant, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan received five each, and Adele, Danger Mouse, Eagles, Lupe Fiasco, George Strait, and T.I. each received four nominations.

For the first time, nominations for the annual GRAMMY Awards were announced on prime-time television as part of “The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! – Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night.” The one-hour special – broadcast live on CBS from Nokia Theatre L.A Live – featured past GRAMMY winners and nominees reading nominations in several categories, as well as performing songs from the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in celebration of the grand opening of the GRAMMY Museum.
