You know, amidst the hype and popularity of The Hunger Games movies, and despite the marketing campaign aimed at a younger crowd, it’s weird how people forget that the books are a surprisingly deep Dystopian critique of Western culture’s celebrity worship / dissociation for those under the poverty line. But then, it’s hard to use that as a tagline, so I can kind of see why. Anyway, here’s the first teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 (due out November 21st), which is actually framed as a propaganda ad meant to keep the poor subservient to the rich. Seriously, if anyone out there writes the books and movies off as young adult fluff, give it another read. Because under that Katniss / Peeta / Gale love triangle is a really great narrative.
