Mindy Kaling in ‘The Mindy Project’

It confuses me how Mindy Kaling hasn’t had her own sitcom up until now. She’s been a supporting actress (and writer) on The Office for a while now, consistently being one of the funniest parts of show, but it’s only recently that she’s been given the go ahead to lead her own show. So here’s the trailer for The Mindy Project, which will be joining FOX‘s other quirky girl comedy, New Girl, on Tuesdays this fall. I have some high hopes for it too, as unlike New Girl, Mindy actually plays someone that could conceivably exist in real life. And thank heavens for that. I loved New Girl, but after a while, it just irritated me how far removed from reality Zooey Deschanel‘s character was. So yes, I’m looking forward to this one.

FOX’s new fall schedule!

Earlier today, NBC announced its fall schedule and everyone freaked out over Community moving in with Whitney (major ugh) on Friday nights, in what is arguably the darkest timeline of them all. Anyway, FOX decided to announce their upcoming fall offerings too, which sees the colossal question mark known as Glee moving to Thursday nights, could this be the show’s kiss of death? From The A/V Club:

Monday
8 p.m.: Bones
9 p.m.: The Mob Doctor
9 p.m. midseason: The Following

Tuesday
8 p.m.: Raising Hope
8:30 p.m.: Ben And Kate
9 p.m.: New Girl
9:30 p.m.: The Mindy Project

Wednesday
8 p.m.: The X Factor
8 p.m. midseason: American Idol

Thursday
8 p.m.: The X Factor
8 p.m. midseason: American Idol
9 p.m.: Glee

Friday
8 p.m.: Touch
9 p.m.: Fringe

Saturday
7 p.m.: Fox Sports Saturday

Sunday
7 p.m.: Football
7:30 p.m.: The OT
7:30 p.m. midseason: The Cleveland Show
8 p.m.: The Simpsons
8:30 p.m.: Bob’s Burgers
9 p.m.: Family Guy
9:30 p.m.: American Dad

I have no idea whether or not The Mob Doctor will be any good, but that name is just … yeesh. I’m happy to see Bones is still hanging in their, since it’s a decent enough show and David Boreanaz is cute. Also, I bet the folks at Gawker are just pleased as punch that New Girl is still on the air, which means another year of Zooey Wowee! Glee, I’m curious to see how that schedule change plays out. It may not be the best thing on television, but even at its worst it’s still interesting enough to watch. Lastly, I am just ecstatic to see the network is throwing their support behind Bob’s Burgers, which has really come into its own over a short run. Kind of weird to see The Cleveland Show still clinging to life, a show that is really only alive right now due to Seth McFarlane‘s name on the marquee.

The celebrity singles for FOX’s ‘The Choice’

In order to give false hope to thousands of single ladies (and men) here’s the full list of celebrities who will be appearing on FOX‘s completely original new show, The Choice, who will be vying to date a complete stranger and then immediately never call them again. Naturally, this list includes two douchebags from Jersey Shore, because what fun is a blind date without the risk of herpes? Via EW:

MEN
Pauly D
Tyson Beckford
Joe Jonas
Dean Cain
Rob Kardashian
Rocco DiSpirito
Warren Sapp
Finesse Mitchell
Romeo
Jeremy Bloom
Jason Cook
Michael Catherwood
Seth Wescott
Parker Young
Ndamukong Suh
Dr. Robert Nettles
Taylor Hicks
Mike Sorrentino
Rob Gronkowski
Steven Lopez

WOMEN
Carmen Electra
Hope Dworaczyk
Rima Fakih
Sophie Monk

For the record, all of these people are essentially going on dates with people in exchange for money, which in a weird way makes this the first televised prostitution ring. Not that there’s anything wrong with that because really, that’s honest work. Hell, for most of these people, this would officially mark the first time they’ve ever worked for their money. I’m looking at you, The Situation.

FOX’s new dating show sounds familiar …

Stop me if you’ve heard this one: It’s a TV show where four famous people sit in big fancy rotating chairs, listen to nobodies vying for their attention, and then spin around when they hear someone they like, thus proving that beauty is only skin deep. If you heard all that and thought “Oh yeah, that’s just The Voice“, then HA! You’re wrong. It’s actually the premise of FOX‘s new dating show, The Choice, which is completely different. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Much like American Idol rival The Voice on NBC, the Fox series will feature a blind audition concept with some of the world’s most eligible — but not yet named — celebrities competing among of group of singles they can’t see. The series is set to debut at 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7.

The series, which relies on the “love is blind” concept, will be filmed in front of a live audience. Each episode will feature four bachelors — and in one case, bachelorettes — seated in rotating chairs, with their backs turned to the single hopeful. The Choice will include a “blind round,” in which each celebrity can only use his suitors’ voice to make the decision. If and when the celebrity bachelor likes what he hears, he pulls his “love handle,” causing the seat to spin around to face his potential mate.

Yes, these two shows are completely different. I mean, I’m sure Christina Aguilera won’t be one of the judges, right? And they even changed the name from The Voice to The Choice. That’s a whole two letter difference! Sorta. Right? Okay then.

‘Axe Cop’ is being adapted into a show!

If you haven’t read Axe Cop yet, do yourself a favor and Google it now, because it’s absolutely hilarious. The basic concept behind it is that it’s a comic written by a five-year-old kid (Malachai Nicolle) and drawn by his 29-year-old comic artist brother (Ethan Nicolle). So basically, imagine a professional cartoon where everything and everyone sounds like a kindergartener. It’s really funny. Anyway, FOX seems to think the same way, and they’re going to adapt it into a series for their Sunday animation block. Yay! Via Deadline:

FOX has set the first piece in its Animation Domination HD block, which is slated to launch in the 11 PM-12:30 AM Saturday night time slot in the first quarter of 2013. Animation Domination HD, the new animation unit launched by FOX in January to generate programming for the new block and various digital platforms, has acquired the rights to the hit online comic Axe Cop. The division, headed by Nick Weidenfeld, has given an order of six quarter-hour episodes to an animated version of the comic, which has been put in development and is looking for a showrunner.

I love this, I really do. Mostly because I know that a show that is literally written by a kid who probably can’t even do long division yet will still be funnier than The Cleveland Show and Allen Gregory. I’m sorry, I tried liking those shows, but they were both just … no. No forever to both of them.

‘House’ is coming to an end

Fox Broadcasting has announced that one of their most successful and beloved shows will be hitting the can after the eighth season commences in April. House M.D. has consistently been a ratings giant, but apparently star Hugh Laurie is ready to move on to other projects as are executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs. The program will be available as a rerun (as it already is), and will leave off with 177 episodes produced, quite the accomplishment. Past star Olivia Wilde tweeted, “Shows like that don’t happen, well, ever. I’m honored to have been a part of such a brilliant story.” Sadly, one doesn’t have to have an imagination to wonder what kind of show will replace House, possibly a Glee/Smash hybrid?

First Look: The X Factor!

OMG! I’m seriously looking forward to The X Factor making its way to the states this coming September, especially after the beyond lackluster tenth season of American Idol. The very thought of Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul sitting together making TV magic once again behind the judges’ table makes me completely giddy. They’ll be joined by fellow judges Nicole Scherzinger (it should have been Cheryl Cole, but I’m letting it go at this point) and L.A. Reid when the show premieres on FOX on Wednesday, September 21st at 8pm! Below is a brand new teaser video just released earlier this evening, at first I was like WTF is going on but then it all became crystal clear, Simon is finally back, just the way we like him!
