Check out the brand new music video from our Icelandic queen of musical quirkiness and eccentricity, Björk. It’s for the track Moon off her upcoming eighth full-length studio album Biophilia (due out October 11th) which is also being released as a groundbreaking app for your iPhone/iPad! She can be a tough pill to swallow sometimes but there’s no denying the woman is a genius, there’s simply no one quite like her!
Watch: Björk’s ‘Crystalline’ music video!
If you’re one of the people who, like me, enjoyed Björk‘s Volta but thought it was a bit hit-or-miss between songs, well worry not! The music video for Crystalline, the first single off her next ‘app’ album Biophilia, has been released and it has all the trademark weirdness of Björk we know and love (it’s directed by the always quirky Michel Gondry), but without the oddly out of place Timbaland productions. No, seriously, you can’t honestly tell me that you’ve ever listened to a Timbaland number and thought “Yeah, I can see this guy producing for Björk.” Not all good things need to be Reese’s Peanut Butter Cupped together.
Listen: Björk’s ‘Crystalline’
September is going to be a very good month, not only are we getting a new Tori Amos album (Night Of Hunters), there’s also Björk‘s seventh solo album, Biophilia. I’ve always been a huge fan of our crazy, sexy and cool Icelandic girl but over the past few years I felt like we lost touch, yet based upon the album’s first completely kick-ass single Crystalline (listen below) I’m super excited at the prospect of spending some much needed time together. Hands down, she’s without a doubt one of the most cutting-edge artists of our time, the woman is seriously a genius on a number of levels, a total music prodigy fully realized. Plus the whole project is being overseen by one of my favorite offbeat directors, Michel Gondry! You can read more about her new album over on The Guardian, her latest project sounds truly fascinating.

Björk – dull flame of desire – video!
good evening! here’s the latest video from my favorite musical eccentric björk for the track dull flame of desire off her latest album volta and features vocals by antony hegarty of antony and the johnsons who is also featured on hercules & love affair‘s album…most notably on the incredibly hot track blind (previously featured here on popbytes) the video is comprised of three parts – directed by the three runner ups in björk’s ‘innocence video competition’ (watch the winning video here) there’s also a single releasing next week on september 22nd featuring a bunch of remixes which i listened to last week and to be completely honest – the remixes are even better than the original! i totally love björk but i certainly can’t listen to her all of the time but i so appreciate her whole vibe (you must watch dancer in the dark if you haven’t already) she’s a total genius and is right up there with my darling tori amos – i’d kill to see them collaborate on something! popbytes over & out for tonight…xoxo

Björk is still Björk!
some things never change – which can sometimes be a good thing – case in point tonight is björk – the oddball icelandic singer – who is still bizarre yet brilliant & original as always! (the pictures below are from a show this evening at london’s hammersmith apollo – i just adore the colorful furry mini-pommed hat along with her dress that looks part aluminum foil) i have such deep respect for her – she always blows me away with her genius & crafty musical ways – i know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea and i can’t listen to her all of the time (i doubt anyone could) but she never fails at bringing something fresh and oh so kooky to the table – no one can argue with that! the mold was smashed into a thousand pieces when she was made – i can’t even think of who i would compare her to – björk (along w/ her fashion) is in a league all her own! i’ve mentioned a couple of times on here before that you must see dancer in the dark if you haven’t already – her golden globe nominated performance is simply incredible – overall the story is a bit of a downer but it’s an excellent film! as for future projects she’ll be releasing ‘volta revisted’ (2CD live/remixes + 1 DVD) sometime this spring! gosh it certainly has been a music filled day here on popbytes with mariah, dolly, and now björk! i’m over & out for now…xxoo! (i also added her video from ’96 for i miss you – a truly awesome track!)

i’m off to see Björk – woo hoo!
UPDATE! oh my gosh – i had another stellar time tonight seeing ms. björk – she was incredible – it felt like a rave at some points – and i met some way cool people plus the craziest part of the evening was running into an old friend from high school (hi eve) who i hadn’t seen in like sixteen years – it was so random – i couldn’t believe it! this coming sunday i’m heading back to the same venue to see my tori amos – who i can’t wait to see although at this point i have very mixed feelings about the show – it’s a long story but i’m almost ready to spill the beans on how i really feel about this particular show – so please stay tuned to hear about how it all pans out – i’m getting so freakin’ sick of being the ‘nice’ blogger in town (fuck all this w00t & deets shit – i’m sure some of you know what (or who) i’m referring to…) popbytes over & out for tonight – xxoo!
oh my goodness – i’ve been waiting for tonight like forever – i’m so super freakin’ excited to go see björk perform tonight down at nokia live! i know it’ll be the perfect venue to see her brilliant musical eccentricity unfold on stage – she’s so darn kooky but one of the smartest & thoughtful musicians i’ve ever encountered! as per usual i’ll do a quick update to this post when i return home! popbytes over & out for now…xxoo! (i’ve also posted my favorite video of hers below – for the track bachelorette directed by the incredible michel gondry – enjoy!)

Play Dead
good morning! in preparation for wednesday night’s björk show here in los angeles (she’s playing nokia live) i wanted to feature one of her lesser known tracks play dead which was included on the soundtrack for the 1993 film the young americans starring harvey keitel, thandie newton, & viggo mortensen (which i’ll admit i’ve never seen but the tagline london is not only losing her soul to the americans, she’s selling it is prompting me to check it out!) the track is beautifully haunting & sweeping – and could have also been used as a ‘bond’ song! yes ms. björk is one of music’s most eccentric ladies – yet she’s also one of the most talented & brilliant – i’ve never seen her play live – and having been a fan for years – i can’t believe i’ve waited this long (shame on me!) of course i’ll be doing a post on the show – so stay tuned and for now please enjoy the track below – i’ve also included the video & lyrics! popbytes over & out for now…xxoo!
» listen to björk’s play dead – tim simeon 12″ mix (.mp3 7.5mb)
darling stop confusing me
with your wishful thinking
hopeful embraces
don’t you understand?
i have to go through this
i belong to here where
no-one cares and no-one loves
no light no air to live in
a place called hate
the city of fear
i play dead
it stops the hurting
i play dead
and the hurting stops
it’s sometimes just like sleeping
curling up inside my private tortures
i nestle into pain
hug suffering
caress every ache
i play dead
it stops the hurting
