While I still consider myself a Christian (of sorts) it still tickles me to know end to see the more fundamentalist and religious of my kind go to extremes to validate the actions they know are wrong but are willing to do anyway. When I was in high school, I knew guys who would, when having sex with their girlfriend’s, only do oral or anal because they thought that as long as you didn’t do vaginal, you would remain a virgin. Which I guess means I’m as pure as the new-fallen snow. But somehow, Katy Perry topped that by making Russell Brand be the one to file the divorce she wanted because doing so herself would violate her beliefs. Yeah, try and figure that one out yourself. Katy Perry reportedly wanted her husband Russell Brand to file divorce papers because she didn’t want to upset her religious parents. It was revealed yesterday (30.12.11), the comic actor had filed separation documents in Los Angeles citing “irreconcilable differences” and the pop star wanted Russell to take the lead because she was raised by her mother and father, Mary and Keith Hudson – who are both Evangelical Christian pastors – to believe divorce is wrong.
Look, I’m sad they’re divorcing and all, but right now I’m just trying to wrap my head around this: basically, if you make your estranged husband to file for divorce from you, even though you actually want the divorce, this somehow falls in God’s blindspot and wipes the slate clean? That’s kind of a stretch, don’t you think? I mean, these things happen and all, and it’s never pretty, but I don’t think you’re really fooling anyone by forcing them to do the dirty work for you.
