Have you watched Orange Is The New Black yet? If yes, don’t you love it?! If no, WHY NOT? If you follow me on Twitter you already know I’ve been completely obsessed with Netflix‘s latest original series from Jengi Kohan (the creator of Weeds), about one woman’s experience in prison (based on Piper Kerman‘s memoir). Everyone I know who has watched already feels the exact same way I do, hands down OITNB is one of the best television shows to come around in years that isn’t technically on TV!
Netflix has already hit home runs with their other original series, House of Cards (brilliant) plus the kooky and hilarious fourth season of Arrested Development (I’ll pass on Hemlock Grove, it’s not my thing) and just yesterday Netflix made history by picking up a number of Emmy nominations including nine for HOC, three for AD and two for HG. Next year OITNB is going to hopefully get a ton of nominations, it totally deserves them! There’s two perfect parts to this show, the writing and the incredible cast. Both are equally excellent, the combination will surely captivate you right away with dark humor and wit balanced with the right amount of drama that transforms into fascinating storytelling at its very best.
Below are a bunch of character posters (placed in alphabetical order), each of these characters I came to know and love (except for Pornstache) over the course of season one’s thirteen episodes. I can’t even decide who’s my favorite, there’s so many to pick from … Red played by Kate Mulgrew, Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Sophia (Laverne Cox), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) and then there’s Alex (Laura Prepon) and of course Piper (Taylor Schilling) … see what I mean? I even think Jason Biggs as Larry is great, it’s probably the best thing he has ever been in! If you haven’t watched the show yet, please do yourself a favor and head over to Netflix and start streaming away, and if you’re not a member I believe there’s a one-month free trial! Now that I’ve seen season one, I don’t know how I’m going to last until season two kicks off sometime next year, I’m already counting down the days to find out what transpires after the prison yard incident … plus we’ll definitely need more shirtless scenes with hottie Matt McGorry who plays Bennett!
