The American Idol judging panel has kind of turned into this revolving doors of people who were big in the 90’s — I’m looking at you Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Mariah Carey. — so it looks like they finally got around to not only nailing down a judging panel for the season, but also signed on two artists from this era: Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. E! Online reports …

Country superstar Keith Urban and rapper Nicki Minaj have joined Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson behind the table on FOX’s reality series staple. The foursome will make their first appearance today in New York, where season 12 auditions will officially kick off. “SO excited to be joining the team on ‪@AmericanIdol!!!!!! -KU ‪#idoljudges,” Urban tweeted Sunday morning.

Yay, now we know who will be giving at best meandering advice while twenty-somethings beg for your votes in a karaoke competition. Seriously, do the judges actually do anything beyond the auditions? Because I swear, if we get one more non-threateningly attractive teen pop star to annoy us with a one-hit wonder before disappearing forever, I will karate a copy of Billboard magazine in half.
