MTV’s ‘Buckwild’ got canceled

Last week, Buckwild star Shain Gandee died of carbon monoxide poisoning after taking his car off-roading. In light of the fact that they may have been partially responsible for this, as well as the other arrests among the cast that included possession and aggravated DUI, MTV decided to pull the plug on the show, which prompted the epic meltdown of the show’s producer. “This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They’ll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding] and they cancel the show?” he fumes. “There’s something that smells of s— here on every level.”

[…] Williams, who manages eight of the show’s cast members, including Gandee, does not intend to move on to other projects. In fact, he suggests that he will continue shooting the series and will look to produce a Buckwild film, which he would self-finance if need be. “My job is to protect these kids,” he tells THR, adding: “This will get ugly.”

I like how he almost made a cogent point about how MTV’s reality programs are all about taking stupid, fame-hungry kids and then encouraging them to be awful until they destroy their lives, until you realize this is the guy who made a show about how rednecks are dumb and oh yeah, ONE OF THEM DIED. Look, I’ll be the first to admit that people on MTV reality shows have a notoriously low success rate, but when you point a finger, you have three more pointing back at you. As in, three of the cast members on Buckwild have either been arrested or have died.
