Anyway, the next September issue also marks the 120th anniversary of the magazine, so who better to be put on the biggest fashion magazine in the world than Lady Gaga, the woman who once wore a lobster as a hat? After practically live-tweeting her anticipation, Lady Gaga went and leaked the September 2012 cover of Vogue—featuring her, obviously—on her fan site. “SHH DONT TELL TWITTER/ SEPT ISSUE OF VOGUE MAGAZINE/ Sorry Anna but the underground kids deserve it. bisous!” the pop star wrote alongside the sneak peek. “Don’t worry I’ve been txting Wintour all morning trying to get that cover queens. next im sending bagels to VOGUE (complex carbohydrate war),” Gaga tweeted yesterday, only to inform her little monsters today, “AHHH! The Vogue Express dropped off the SEPTEMBER ISSUE yesterday morning. IM A COVER GIRL, and ITS FAB! Can’t wait to show u tonight!” Then, tonight: “Im so excited to post the SEPT ISSUE OF VOGUE in 30 min! Photographed by MERT & MARCUS. Also behind the scenes film on VOGUE.com.”
The biggest surprise in all of this: Vogue magazine is 120 years old. No, seriously, one-hundred-and-twenty years old. It debuted way back in 1892, when women’s fashion involved steam engines and cotton gins. Did you know the first bra ever featured in Vogue was actually two boob-hugging squirrels who would occasionally mug to the camera and say, “Eh, it’s a living”?
