After the October release of her much anticipated third studio album PRISM, our favorite “California Gurl” is back, and she hasn’t even skipped a beat. Katy Perry kicked off her Prismatic World Tour Wednesday night at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena in front of a sold-out crowd of over 8,000.

“This tour is going to be fantastic, I’m going to be very close to the audience, and I’m taking it to the next level,” said Perry, and she did just that. Opening the night was Swedish DJ duo, Icona Pop, (Capital Cities and Kacey Musgraves will join Perry for the US leg) who created an electric atmosphere within the arena prior to the main event. Donning a custom Roberto Cavalli LED encrusted mini-skirt and matching crop top, Perry emerged from a holographic triangle belting her chart-topping PRISM lead single “Roar.”

For two hours, Perry dazzled the arena with nine wardrobe changes, aerial choreography, her impressive discography, a cat-themed cover of Madonna’s “Vogue”, as well as an encore of “Firework” complete with a custom Todd Thomas ball gown.

Unlike the California Dreams Tour, Perry has not only grown from the bubblegum pop princess we all adore, but she has matured as an artist, showcasing her talent and vocal ability as well as her sheer skill of entertainment; that’s what Katy is all about.

When I first met Perry at Warped Tour (2008 … yes,I was only in high school), I was immediately drawn to her relatable demeanor as well as her personal lyrics which resonated with the very socially awkward teen that I was. Since that first encounter, Perry has continuously showcased herself as a musical chameleon, just as her initial fans have grown throughout the years, so has she. Unlike many pop artists in the industry today, Perry has managed to maintain her child-like innocence and vulnerability without selling out her career, which in turn has launched her career into superstardom.

After a seventeen date string of concerts in the UK, Perry will bring the Prismatic World Tour to the United States on June 22nd, before launching internationally in Australia this coming November. For tickets and more information, go check out katyperry.com.
