I’ve never understood why people keep claiming that The Simpsons has jumped the shark, when the show is still capable of turning out funny, clever, heartwarming episodes pretty regularly. Hell, the last Christmas Special showing the entire family grown up was one of the best episodes I’ve ever seen from the show. That being said, Justin Bieber is reportedly going to be making a cameo appearance on the show, so I’m starting to see how they might be right. Entertainment Weekly reports …
Justin Bieber has just completed vocals on his latest project: A guest spot on The Simpsons. The 18-year-old singer, who wasn’t born when the animated Fox comedy launched, tweeted this afternoon: “just did a voice over for the SIMPSONS!!! #swaggy.” Though the tweet appears to have since been deleted, Simpsons exec producer Al Jean confirms to EW that Bieber will indeed play himself in an upcoming episode. How exactly does he fit into the story? “He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won’t admit him,” says Jean, quipping: “Draw your own conclusions.”
Don’t expect a boatload of Bieber, though. “It’s a cameo,” notes Jean, “but all of his fans should watch every minute of the show, before and after he’s on.”
First off, swag, swaggy, and any permutations of those two words need to die as a quick, painful death. If I never hear the word swag again, it’ll be too soon. Anyway, does anybody else feel like this is going to date the show painfully hard? Because it totally will. I’m sorry, but at this point, anything containing Justin has roughly the shelf life of soggy bread. Every time I see the Biebs on television, I remember to set my watch to last week.
