Jena Malone cast as Johanna Mason in ‘Catching Fire’

Jena Malone

This has more or less been a pretty solid decision for a few weeks now, but Lionsgate went ahead and officially announced that Jena Malone, who you might remember from Saved! (yay!) and Sucker Punch (ummm … a little less yay …), will be playing the role of Johanna Mason in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Via Entertainment Weekly:

EW first reported last month that Jena Malone was in the running for the pivotal role. (Some basic plot SPOILERS follow from here.) In Catching Fire, Johanna is one of the former winning tributes selected, along with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), for the Quarter Quell. A citizen of the lumber-based District 7, Johanna’s quite handy with an ax, and possesses what Katniss calls, in Suzanne Collins’ book, “a wicked ability to murder.”

Oh, and did they neglect to mention that Johanna spends most of the book completely and totally stark naked? Because Johanna spends most of the book completely and totally stark naked. I feel like that could potentially be a selling point.
