I think we, as a society, are hitting the point of Lady Gaga fatigue. Honestly, after three years of non-stop radio play, headlines and Twittering, I think we’re getting to the point where Gaga needs to just spend a couple of months chilling at home, eating Ben & Jerry’s and watching back episodes of Arrested Development. Case in point: Here’s Jack White throwing beaucoup shade at Gaga, a propos of pretty much nothing. Via HuffPo …
“The goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator,” said White. “‘Hey, I’m a guy just like you. I like a beer, a football game.’ Especially in reality television, you’ll see people will go so far as to make a fool out of themselves just to prove that.”
The drummer went on call out Lady Gaga for creating music that lacks substance.
“I don’t think she lives it because it’s all artifice” said White. “It’s all image with no meaning behind it. You can’t sink your teeth into it. It’s a sound bite. It’s very of this age, because that’s what people want. They want a Twitter line, a jpeg, an MP3.”
I’m not going to add much more here, because honestly? He’s right. Everything Gaga does feels calculated. I’m not saying she doesn’t make good music or that she doesn’t do good, but there’s always this general air of performance to everything she does. Not everything has to be a show, dahling.
