True story! Last night I saw Lady Gaga at Madison Square Garden and this morning in the supermarket for a Diet Coke run — no, I wasn’t going to glue the cans in my hair — I was replaying the concert in my brain. Suddenly the store manager calls out over the PA system “ALEJANDRO. ALEJANDRO.” LOL. He didn’t tell this “Alejandro” which aisle to go to and sadly he did not follow it up with a “I just can’t be with you like theeez anymore… Ale-jan-dro ♪ …”
Last night at the concert the first celebrity Gaga name-checked was Madonna. If Gaga is going to follow in all of Madonna’s footsteps will she also try acting? I’m convinced that Gaga would be just as terrible — but in a fun way — being so theatrically overwrought on stage or video. When she’s Madonna’s age will she be directing movies? If so, I hope they’re crazy horror movies or campy musicals. Madonna just started directing her second feature (which she also wrote) in London but it’s neither a campy musical nor a horror movie. It’s called W.E. and it’s about a modern woman who gets obsessed with the true story of King Edward VIII who abdicated his throne to marry the American socialite Wallis Simpson in the 1930s. Abbie Cornish has the lead role. Andrea Riseborough, a rising British actress, will play Wallis Simpson and Madonna has cast a British acting dynasty (James Fox and his son Laurence) as the onscreen king and his son. They just started shooting the movie in London!
