Remember when Brokeback Mountain‘s Jack Twist attempted to avoid his feelings for Ennis Del Mar by marrying a cowgirl? Well that unhappy couple, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway to be exact, are giving romance another go in Love and Other Drugs. (Watch the trailer below) It’s not their first time at the rodeo (sorry!) but this time they look a lot happier, at least until Anne gets sick. This looks like a great role for Hathaway.
Jake: Anne?
Anne: Yes, Jake.
Jake: I bet that’s Oscar on the other line!
Love and Other Drugs, which opens in November, is based on the book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman. Will Jake and Anne be up for Oscars again? Jake was nominated for Brokeback Mountain and Anne for Rachel Getting Married (She should have won! God, she was great in that). The movie sure looks promising and Anne at least is the right age for Oscar to come calling. They usually make the men wait until their late 30s or 40s so Jake will have to put in more time. Female film stars win earlier in their careers. Anne will be 28 when next year’s Oscars roll around and that’s a fairly common age for Best Actress wins (though most are won in the early 30s).
