Marina and the Diamonds

EXCLUSIVE:
Marina and the Diamonds
chats with PopBytes—again!

UPDATE
See pictures from Marina’s show!

This past weekend I had the chance to sit down with Welsh singer/songwriter Marina and the Diamonds right before her much buzzed about show at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall. I interviewed her back in 2010 (watch it here in case you missed it) and since then she has become wildly popular and a bonafide (tongue-in-cheek) popstar all on her own terms. Three short years ago Marina played the Troubadour with a couple of hundred fans, Saturday night (my fifth Marina show) there was 5,000 people packed in the Shrine to catch the third and final leg of her US Lonely Hearts Club Tour.

As many of you know, I’m a die hard fan and have supported Marina as much as I can here on PopBytes, so I was thrilled to be given another chance to chat with one of my favorite artists! Plus she completely remembered our last interview together and apparently I snagged the only interview she approved for her time in Los Angeles, needless to say, I felt special! It meant so much to me personally to sit down with Marina and chat in the privacy of her dressing room, she’s so amazingly warm and gracious, I can’t thank her enough for taking the time out for me! I also must give mad props to the good folks over at Atlantic Records who helped set this all up, I simply couldn’t be more grateful. This blog turns ten-years-old in September and without a doubt this is exclusive interview was one of the biggest highlights for me personally in an entire decade!

Marina and I chatted on a bunch of topics including: the tour, wrapping up the Electra Heart era, “Just Desserts” with Charli XCX, her highly-anticipated third album’s direction, Dr. Luke, the many devoted fans aka Diamonds, her ‘acting’ in the steamy “How To Be A Heartbreaker” music video, and more!

Towards the end of the interview, she touched upon the recent Azealia Banks (that girl is such a hothead) Twitter situation which caused a bit of a stir on the web. In short, Marina tweeted this:

For some (crazy) reason Azealia seemed to think Marina was talking about her and tweeted back:

Watch the video interview above to find out what Marina had to say about the drummed up nonsense! I know fans are going to love this totally candid interview, Marina kept it real while being super adorable, smart and of course, funny! After the interview, Marina’s show was fantastic and I do have some killer pics to share later this week, so please stay tuned for more on Marina and the Diamonds!
