Did Britney Spears really sing on “Scream & Shout”?

Britney SpearsWhen I first heard “Scream & Shout,” two things went through my head: First, when did Britney Spears scrape out her vocal chords and replace them with an iPhone? And second, the world needs a new Will.I.Am song the way it needs drug-resistant gonorrhoea. But seriously, how someone can book Britney to guest on a song, and find a way to completely remove any trace of Britney-ness from her vocals is beyond me, but William found a way. (I refuse to include the stupid periods. I REFUSE!) Anyway, Eve went on the record on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live about how she heard rumors that it wasn’t Britney on the track, which of course led to Brit’s camp freaking out. Via HuffPo

During a recent sit-down with Andy Cohen for Watch What Happens Live, Cohen asked Eve about Spears’ British accent on the single (“Scream & Shout”) for will.i.am’s upcoming album, “#willpower.”

“I heard that might not be Britney,” says Eve.

“Really?” asks Cohen. “Why? It’s someone else in the studio?”

“That’s what I heard,” says Eve. “But, you know, I don’t know. It could be Britney. But I heard it wasn’t. I don’t know.”

Eve, who is getting ready to drop her first album in 11 years, might have tried to play coy, but Spears’ publicist didn’t mince words when he snapped back at the rap star. “It’s absolute BS,” publicist Jeff Raymond told TMZ. “Britney sang the song. Will.i.am wanted her for this song and she sang on it.” A source from the studio also got snippy. “Was Eve even in Studio,” the source said to TMZ. “Didn’t know. She’s clearly jealous. I didn’t even know she still sings.”

To be honest, I would have been less surprised if it wasn’t Britney. But the fact that you managed to get Britney on a track, and then made her sound nothing like Britney Spears honestly surprises me. That’s amazing. Also, I’m not even going to touch the fact that William’s album name is a hashtag. You and your stupid album title can get cholera for all I care, William.
