Last night up and coming rap superstar Azealia Banks (21, she hails from Harlem back east) brought her Mermaid Ball to Los Angeles (she threw one in New York City last month), it was truly a treat to be there in person, I knew it would be an epic show and it totally was. She’s one of the most buzzed about people in music today (it all started with her kick-ass track “212″ released back in December), which is a bit crazy since girlfriend hasn’t even dropped her debut album yet! A few weeks ago she released a four-song (super tight and amazing) EP called 1991, and just a couple of days ago Azealia offered up a free mixtape called Fantasea (if you haven’t downloaded it yet – you must), in the fall she’ll bring us her full-length debut entitled Broke with Expensive Taste (that title is so me). I was thoroughly impressed by her as performer last night, she had the crowd whipped up into a total frenzy, the energy in the room was unparalleled, I was practically bouncing off the wall by the time she finished her 45-minute set, I wanted more! Without a doubt, Azealia (definitely the real deal) is one of the most exciting new acts to come along in awhile, mark my words right now, this girl is going to be HUGE!
