hey boys & girls! gosh i always think i have more time than i actually do! i have been running here & there getting ready for my mini-trip tomorrow...and of course i wasn't thinking much about TV but tonight is the 3rd season premiere of our dear entourage! this is a show that has progressively gotten better so i hope they can keep the energy up as they carry into the new season...i do love my ari gold (jeremy piven) but i really love shauna played by ms. debi mazar - make sure to tune in tonight (i will be watching the tony anwards as well) - these weekends fly by way too fast! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
lots of stuff coming down the TV pike tonight! even though i am still pissed at HBO for ridding of our dear valerie cherish (she should be arriving on DVD soon i hope...) i am looking forward to their latest wacky show big love (polygamy loves company) - the promos have kinda reminded me of 'six feet under' but instead of death it is polygamy - bill paxton stars as a man with count 'em three wives - oh good times! i love messed up family dramas and this one looks like a doozy of a mess - chock full o' scandals & lies - even though i really can't stand chloë sevigny - i for sure will give this show a chance tonight - catch it after the sopranos finally returns - although i know it is a good show i missed the boat a long time ago on that one - someday i will do the sopranos on DVD! popbytes over & out for now...xxoo!
Think having three wives is a dream come true? Meet Bill Henrickson
(Bill Paxton), a modern-day Utah polygamist who lives in suburban
Salt Lake City with his three wives, seven children, and a mounting
avalanche of debt and demands. The owner of a growing chain of home
improvement stores, Bill struggles to balance the financial and
emotional needs of Barb, Nicki and Margene (Jeanne Tripplehorn,
Chloë Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin), who live in separate, adjacent
houses and take turns sharing their husband each night. While
managing the household finances together and routinely sharing
"family home nights," they try to keep simmering jealousies in
check and their arrangement a secret — polygamy is illegal in Utah
and banned by the mainstream Mormon Church. Adding to Bill's woes
are a series of crises affecting his parents (Bruce Dern and Grace
Zabriskie), who live on a fundamentalist compound in rural Utah,
and his ruthless father-in-law, Roman (Harry Dean Stanton), the
powerful head of the polygamist commune where his parents live.
Bold, funny and wholly original, Big Love explores the evolving
institution of marriage through a typical atypical family.
happy monday and columbus day (oh that 1492) - i didn't have the day off which is just shameful and a cryin' shame - when there is no mail - there should be no work - i like that rule! but in the end it just sucks to be part of the whole 9-5 grind - popbytes does keep me sane - so thank heavens for that!
anyways you all know i am only slightly obsessed with hollywood - so when i got a preview copy of the HBO series unscripted that is to hit stores next week - i was thrilled - it was a small comedy series (created by george clooney and steven soderbergh) - 10 episodes in all - well worth your viewing time - it was one of these kinda infused reality & fiction shows - that took a look at three actors trying to make or break it here in hollywood - i loved this series when it was airing - very clever and quite funny - and really made me thank my lucky stars that i am NOT an aspiring actor here in hollywood - i prefer the pop sidelines - such an interesting business - and i think this show for captured some ups and downs of living 'the actor life' here in LA - and for some reason i just adore krista allen (who used to date mr. cutie clooney) - she just shines in this series along with acting vet frank langella who plays an acting coach - if you haven't seen this series - i highly urge you to check it out...popbytes out for now - just be happy we made it through monday! xxoo
There are no red carpets or premiere parties--just a string of hopeless auditions and humiliating, low paying jobs. This is the real life story of struggling Los Angeles actors that is hilariously captured in HBO Video’s October 2005 DVD release Unscripted: The Complete First Season. Executive produced by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh, the series blends improvisation and real life taking a dryly humorous insider’s look at the all-too-earnest, frequently raucous, often disillusioning lives of several young actors trying to make a living - and make it big - in Hollywood.
The series stars actors Krista Allen, Bryan Greenberg and Jennifer Hall playing themselves and Frank Langella as their tough, no-nonsense acting teacher Goddard Fulton. As they navigate the ins and outs of Tinsel Town, crossing paths with real-life actors, producers, directors and agents, they provide a fly-on-the-wall glimpse at how the process of learning how to act often takes a backseat to the less-subtle skills involved in selling yourself in a cutthroat and highly competitive business.
ok so this is like one of those shows that maybe you never really watched but keep hearing people talk about - well finally i got on the boat and i started to watch last season - and although it does take some 'getting into' - it is brilliant stuff - so glad to be on board - larry david creator and star of curb your enthusiasm is so kinda ' neurotic - dry funny' and the situations he gets himself into turn out to be great TV as well as classic comedic snafus - really just random, wacky and oh so unpredictable - plus i love his wife on the show played by cheryl hines - she is a great match to larry's eccentric ways - so be sure to tune in tonight at 10pm on HBO (don't worry - i am still fuming over the cancellation of the comeback - but we do love larry david...) - gosh there is so much on tonight - get ready! anyways i will be back later...xxoo
Candid, unsparing and self-deprecating, Curb Your Enthusiasm brings the off-kilter comic vision of Larry David--co-creator and co-executive producer of one of the most lauded comedy series in TV history, Seinfeld--to HBO. The series blurs the lines between reality and fiction, as David (playing himself) and a cast of real and fictional characters are followed around Los Angeles by a ubiquitous camera that chronicles the private, often banal world of a (relatively) public man.
Having evolved from the 1999 HBO special Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, this series proves how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life--a trip to the movies, a phone call, a visit from some trick-or-treaters--can precipitate a "Murphy's Law" chain of misfortune to hilarious effect. Like George Costanza in Seinfeld, the protagonist of Curb Your Enthusiasm has a knack for getting himself into uncomfortable situations that end up alienating him from peers and acquaintances.
To keep the narrative fresh and spontaneous, Curb Your Enthusiasm is shot without a script; the cast is given scene outlines and often improvise lines as they go. The result is an unpredictable format that's unlike anything else on TV.
seriously i would give or sell my left nut to get out of rome (HBO's new sunday night show) and back to the fishers & six feet under - i will give this new HBO show one chance - yes you heard me - one chance to catch my attention - so if it sucks - i'm gonna burn this show down...i just hope in the end it's sassy & scandalous! that's what i need on sunday night (not boring or confusing) - anyways rock on - it's friday! popbytes out for now...xxoo
The year is 52 B.C. Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people, epicenter of a sprawling empire. The Republic was founded on principles of shared power and fierce personal competition, never allowing one man to seize absolute control. But now, those foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess. The ruling class has become extravagantly wealthy, with a precipitous decline in the old values of Spartan discipline and social unity. There is now a great chasm between the classes. Legal and political systems have weakened, and power has increasingly shifted to the military...READ MORE »
hey kids - are we enjoying the holiday weekend yet? i hope so! they always feel a little anti-climatic - but the extra day off from work is great! but i will say TV does suffer on the holiday weekends - but no worries - tonight is a new entourage which has honestly become one of my favorite shows - the guys are all kinda irritating, annoying, and full of themselves - but it is funny to watch - and i love the whole LA factor of the show - it sure makes me thank my lucky stars i am not an actor here in LA - i think i would jump off a bridge - much better to observe from afar (or here on popbytes!) - and then right after entourage - stay tuned for the comeback which is repeating its first show - not to be missed - ok im outtie for now - check you all laters - xxoo
Vince discovers why his gorgeous neighbor Staci has been so friendly. Eric regrets the past when he has to get through yet another gate kept by Emily. Ari tries to blackmail Dana into getting a meeting with an important director. When Drama and Turtle curb their spending, Vince grows suspicious.
ok so many people i know are so annoyed by the antics (rick, ivan...etc!) of entourage - but i absolutely adore it - and makes me so appreciate NOT attempting to be an actor in los angeles - i swear i would slit my wrists if i were to attempt to 'act' here - i so prefer to observe from the sidelines - it is fun to watch - actors are so a dime a dozen in LA (i swear i see about 5-10 people a day reading a script randomly) - and my feeling success is often being in the exact right place at the exact right time - sheer dumb luck (and some talent does help!) - and this half-hour comedy handles the ups & downs of the 'hollywood' life with superb wit & sarcasm - so tune into my beloved HBO to catch the 2nd season premiere of entourage - i may be hard up for TV these days - but i do love this show! much love as always! - popbytes out! xxoo!
hey kids - this comes out on DVD tomorrow - and im so excited to catch the whole series - i just got the dvd as per below - and im super excited to catch up on what looks like a very interesting series that popbytes didnt have time for the first time around - and the second season starts in january - and whilst i was home on LI - ms. dana (who writes my sassy apprentice column on fridays) and hubby ryan were huge fans - so please do check it out...
In a time of titanic sandstorms, vile plagues, drought and pestilence – all signs of God’s fury and harbingers of the Apocalypse – the final conflict between good and evil is about to begin. Just in time to catch up on season one before the second season debut in early 2005, Carnivàle: The Complete First Season arrives exclusively on DVD featuring twelve, one-hour episodes of the series that sparked Time Magazine to hail it as “magical” and “spectacular.”
Set in 1934 during the Great Depression, Carnivàle follows a traveling carnival as it winds its way across the Dust Bowl. It focuses on Ben Hawkins (Nick Stahl), a mysterious 18-year-old fugitive with hidden talents who is taken in by the carnival, and the charismatic, shadowy evangelist, Brother Justin Crowe (Clancy Brown) who will ultimately cross his path. In addition to Stahl (In The Bedroom) and Brown (The Shawshank Redemption), cast regulars on Carnivàle include Clea Duvall (HBO’s The Laramie Project), Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams), and Michael J. Anderson (Twin Peaks).
he mastered many characters, but the one character he couldn't master - was himself.
oh this looks like a hot new movie from HBO films - starring geoffrey rush, charlize theron, and john lithgow - im sure this is to be another fine entry from the hottest cable channel around! (the first season of carnivàle comes out tuesday!) on a personal note - popbytes is thankful to be back in los angeles and im now settling in & resting up after a great but long stint on the east coast! but the bad weather followed me home and its raining in hollywood! its good i guess since we can always use the extra moisture - but i wanted to come back to bright LA sunshine - oh well into each pop life a little rain must fall - look out tomorrow for a big 'moanday update' - there is so much to fill you all in on! but please do check out the life and death of peter sellers tonight on HBO at 9
