Lana Del Rey does Billboard and Interview!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

It pleases me to no end that MK and I share the epic love for Lana Del Rey. It was finally announced that the beautiful songstress was signed to Next Models a few weeks ago, and in the last twenty-four hours, two more magazine covers of the irreproachable goddess were released. Check out Lana on the cover of Billboard and Interview (Russia) – looking amazing and iconic as always. 2012 is going to be Lana’s year. Make sure you vote for her on MTV’s Brand New for 2012 poll. Born To Die the single is available for free download in the US on iTunes, and the debut album drops on January 30th. Get involved!

Carine Roitfeld’s daughter posed for her lingerie line!

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

As a huge fan of the one and only Carine Roitfeld (i.e. her work, her charm, her style, her vision), I suppose that I have semi-adopted an “I wish I were a Roitfeld” way of life – so when I saw the photos of her daughter and fashion icon Julia Restoin-Roitfeld for her new lingerie campaign, I had to share them with you. In typically vintage Marianna Rothen style, Julia has been photographed looking flawless for her capsule underwear collection for Kiki de Montparnasse (named after the French model, nightclub singer and actress at the heart of the 1920 social scene in Paris). The line is out Wednesday, December 14th.

It’s all about being made in Brazil!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

If there is one editorial individual/team that has the most incredible taste in creative campaign imagery and well, men, it is Made In Brazil. As a long time reader of the blog, it gave me great pleasure when they announced their debut print issue a couple of years ago. This week saw the announcement and release of issue #4 featuring fully home grown Brazilian content from (and staring) Diego Miguel, Evandro Soldati, Fabrício Bach, Marlon Teixeira, Alexandre Cunha … and more.

As if it could get any better, the issue comes in two volumes with Volume I photography by Stewart Shining and styling by Gregory Wein and Volume II photography by Cristiano Madureira, Fábio Bartelt, Hugo Toni, and Paulo Martinez. The issue is limited to 1,000 numbered copies and you can pre-order here, with shipping from December 2nd.

Here is a taste of what you can expect with the main cover (colour) photographed by Stewart Shining with styling by Gregory Wein. The supplement cover (B&W) is photographed by Fábio Bartelt in Bahia with styling by Paulo Martinez. Both feature Diego Miguel at Wilhelmina. Literally beautiful.

Nicki and Ricky go glam!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

The hottest campaign image of the week has to go to Nicki MInaj and Ricky Martin (Nicki and Ricky – HOW GREAT DOES THAT SOUND) by David LaChapelle. So, the duo are the new faces of the M.A.C. VIVA GLAM campaign and the first image was just released with more to come (and eventually a video). It was shot by photography icon LaChapelle and shows a pink-haired Nicki on a motorcycle whilst Ricky holds up a giant lipstick. Cannot wait for the video and the remainder of the images to drop!

Lana Del Rey’s first magazine cover!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

So MK, Jeremy Feist and I share a pretty strong obsession with breakthrough pop artist Lana Del Rey. If you read PopBytes and KARLISMYUNKLE regularly or have any of us in the last two months, YOU WILL KNOW THIS. Lana is destined to be, not only the next big pop star, but an equally huge fashion icon. Her current stylist is London’s Johnny Blue Eyes of Gaga, Kelis and Peaches fame – this is undoubtedly an amazing start for the siren who has a super unique voice and sound, coupled with an icon-in-the-making look and personality. I literally cannot wait to see her inner fashionista flourish. Lana was featured on her first cover (of Wonderland magazine) this month, shot by AJ Numan, styled by Julia Sarr-Jamois, with jewels by Miu Miu. It is pretty breathtaking. A great Club Clique remix of Lana’s hauntingly beautiful track Blue Jeans also just dropped, check it out below.

Zombie Boy’s tattoo reversal!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

The following video includes rather major levels of amazingness; you will literally be glued to your screen. Y’all should definitely be familiar with who Gaga / Mugler collaborator Rico Genest aka Zombie Boy is … if you aren’t click here.

Rico Genest / Zombie Boy

So, last month in Schön magazine, we got to see a glimpse of Rico with his tattoos partially covered, now you can see the transformation in full force thanks to Dermablend. Enjoy the irony on the Born This Way ethos – it is rather genius.

Ja! to no underwear + Gaga will eat you!

So this week, I popped over (as you do) to Stockholm in Sweden for a day – the home of Björn Borg underpants and I could not get this image out of my head – it is from their new campaign, Björn Borg says JA! to no underwear. Literally amazing.

In other news, the Thierry Mugler show in Paris for SS12 took place on Wednesday. The clothes might not have gone down all that well, but I have fallen head over heels in love with the Inez & Vinoodh fashion film to launch the collection starring Lady Gaga along with an exclusive remix by DJ White Shadow of her track Black Jesus † Amen Fashion. You can check it out below.

Something sexy to remember D&G by!

FashionBytes with Nik Thakkar

This week marked the end of D&G as a diffusion line, as it will now be fully integrated into the signature Dolce & Gabbana collection. It was actually announced over six months ago, but the SS12 show in Milan this week was officially the last, with a statement from Domenico and Stefano stating that they wanted to put “even more strength and energy in to our collections”. However, what we can’t forget, are the incredibly sexy campaigns that came out of the brand over the last few years, so here are a few highlights to remember D&G by! Check them out below.
