‘Glee’ honors Whitney Houston tonight!

Hey kids! Make sure to tune into Glee tonight for a very special episode that honors the late Whitney Houston by tackling seven of her chart-topping songs. It’s still hard to believe she’s really gone, I would have loved to have seen her make a guest appearance on the show, but unfortunately that’s impossible now. Make sure to watch the clips below, the first is the show’s take on How Will I Know, the second features some of the cast talking about the making of this emotionally charged episode, I know Ms. Houston would be proud and flattered by the touching tribute to her incredible musical legacy.

Whitney Houston’s last film, ‘Sparkle’

I’m still very torn up over the sudden loss of Whitney Houston, it’s still hard for me to believe she’s actually gone. I was a huge fan for many years, not a day goes by that I don’t think of her incredible talent and grace. Thankfully Whitney was able to finish filming her last movie Sparkle (a project built out of out love for Whitney), a remake of Sparkle from 1976 (starring Irene Care and Lonette McKee), Whitney plays mom to American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, who just so happens to be making her film debut. The trailer premiered earlier today (watch it below), I totally know where I’m going to be on August 17th, I simply cannot pass seeing my girl Whitney up on the silver screen once again, may she rest in peace.

Bobbi Kristina inherits Whitney’s entire estate

Since Bobbi Kristina was the only person in Whitney Houston‘s life who was actually looking out for Whitney’s best interests, rather than enabling her drug addiction for the sake of squeezing a few bucks out of her, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that Whitney left Bobbi everything she owned in her will, because really, who was she going to leave it to? Bobby Brown? Do you think she wanted everything she owned pawned off for drug money? TMZ reports:

Whitney Houston’s 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina got inconceivably richer the day her mother died — because the singer left Bobbi 100% of her assets in her will … an estate valued at around $20 million. According to reports, Whitney’s will doesn’t enumerate specific assets — but she leaves ALL furnishings, clothing, personal effects, jewelry and cars to her surviving children … i.e. Bobbi. According to reports, Houston’s money will be put in a trust — which Bobbi will have access to in stages … earning a portion when she turns 21, another chunk when she turns 25, and the rest when she turns 30.

Well, it’s good to know that Bobbi Kristina will be taken care of at least, although that probably won’t stop the line of enablers coming out the woodwork to her for some cash.

Brown: Hey Bobbi, it’s your dad! Wanna go out for cocaine?
Bobbi: I’m sorry, do you want to try that again?
Brown: I meant ice cream… cocaine-flavored ice cream.
Bobbi: Yeah, this conversation is over.

Whitney’s movies were pulled from Netflix?

So last week, Sony and iTunes took a lot of shit because they decided it would be a great idea to exploit Whitney Houston‘s unfortunate and untimely death by upping the price of all her music. You thought that was bad, right? Well, now the studios behind some of her biggest movies are pulling them from Netflix because why should people watch movies they paid to see when you can just make them pay even more money for the exact same thing? From Google Plus Week:

So I called Netflx and the rep confirmed what I suspected:

Netflix rep: “Okay Dan, I just went and talked to my main supervisor as to why the movie had been pulled and the reason it was pulled was the production company pulled the streaming rights from us because all the publicity after Whitney Houston’s passing there was an opportunity to make really a very large amount of money on the DVD sales of her movies. So they’re going to pull all the streaming titles we have of Whitney Houston so they can make more money off the DVD sales of her movies.”

Yes, how else will all the angry people you just pissed off watch The Bodyguard without having to go out and buy a DVD? That would be some sort of fantastical impossibility, like PIRATEs existing in your local BAY. Not that we’re endorsing that, we’re just being realistic here. Or they could just turn on the television and go watch any of the hundreds of broadcasts of The Bodyguard TV stations are paying right now. Either way, these people can suck a dick.

Whitney Houston died of a drug overdose

It was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Whitney Houston this weekend, a talented woman whose drug addiction ultimately overcame her and ended a promising life and career too soon. But of course, no one really wanted to admit that Whitney died tragically early for any other reason than the most obvious one, so just in case you’ve been refusing to answer the door to reality, let me open that door as wide as I possibly can: Whitney died of a drug overdose. TMZ reports:

Whitney Houston’s family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials … the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol … this according to family sources. We’re told Coroner’s officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney’s lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned. Our sources say the family was told Whitney may well have died before her head became submerged.

Look, I know you’re not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but you’re also not supposed to enable people with serious drug problems by sweeping them under the rug because you find the truth to be uncomfortable. Be real here: there’s no way a lovely, talented 48-year-old woman would just drop dead one day without something seriously wrong happening. And in this case, “something seriously wrong” means “a fatal cocktail of drugs and alcohol”. Once again, I know it’s in poor taste to speak ill of the dead, but do you know what’s even worse? Coddling the living until they accidentally kill themselves because you were afraid of hurting their precious feelings.

Apple jacked up the price of Whitney’s music?

Pop quiz! What do you think happened in the immediate aftermath of Whitney Houston‘s death?

A People flocked to iTunes to download her music
B Apple immediately upped the price of all her music by 60%.
C All of the above
D Everyone was respectful and didn’t try to screw each other over using their own mourning against them

The answer is C. It will never be D. DigitalSpy reports:

Houston’s 2007 Ultimate Collection increased by £3 to £7.99 in the space of just thirty minutes, with iTunes users reporting that they were prevented from downloading the LP at its original advertised price while the update occurred. It is not yet known who is behind the price increase, with some fans suggesting the label Sony Music or publisher may be responsible.

Some accused Apple of “cashing in” on the tragedy, while others said that the company should be “ashamed” of supposed “shameless exploitation”.

One customer, who claimed to have spent two hours trying to purchase the Ultimate Collection at its original price, added: “To say I am angry is an understatement and I feel it is just a case of iTunes cashing in on the singer’s death, which in my opinion is totally parasitic.

“The album itself is great so please don’t be put off purchasing it, just [realize] that you will merely be lining some fatcat’s pocket before Whitney’s lifeless body is cold.”

Well of course they upped the price. If you walked into a record store at this moment, you’d probably catch the clerks slapping new ticket prices on all her music because dead celebrities = big bucks. CAPITALISM AND AYN RAND AND FREE MARKET ECONOMICS YEAH!

Whitney Houston - The Greatest Hits

The loss of a legend, Whitney Houston

I don’t even know where to start. It’s still hard to believe that Whitney Houston unexpectedly passed away yesterday at the age of 48. Since hearing the devastating and tragic news, I’ve been in a state of complete shock and disbelief. As a huge fan and supporter of Ms. Houston, for years now (decades in fact), my heart is heavy with profound sadness over the loss of a true legend. I grew up listening to her incredible voice (that’s still unmatched today), she was hands down one of my favorite musicians, sadly there will never be anyone quite like her. I truly thought she had finally put all of the drama from the last couple of years behind her, and was ready to be back on top once again (in fact I loved her most recent album I Look To You so much I named it my top favorite album of 2009), and now it pains me to think we’ll never hear or be witness to Whitney’s God-given gift again. Even though she was taken from the world way too soon, I know her beautiful and original spirit will live on through her timeless music, that’s bound to touch future generations. My heart goes out to Whitney’s family and friends, especially her daughter Bobbi Kristina who I know is having a very rough time dealing with her mother’s sudden death. I will always love you Whitney, the entire world misses you already, I pray that you have finally found the peace you so deserved.

Whitney Houston: Dead at 48!

OMG! I am losing my mind! I’m at the airport waiting to head back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas and word just broke (via TMZ) that my darling diva Whitney Houston has died suddenly at the age of 48. The story is developing, no more details yet. I am stunned and saddened, I cannot believe this. I don’t want to jump to conclusions abut the cause of her death, but we all know about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction over the years, what a shame this all is, I’m like in shock right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this obviously very rough time. We are going to miss you Whitney!

Whitney Houston died this afternoon … a rep for the singer told the Associated Press.

According to our sources, Houston died at the Beverly Hilton hotel. A police crime lab vehicle was seen outside the hotel just moments ago. So far, the details surrounding Houston’s death are unclear. The singer famously battled drug addiction for years.

Whitney Houston to seatbelt: Hell to the no!

Whitney HoustonOh Whitney Houston, what are we gonna do with you? Everyone’s favorite crusader against crack (which, by the way, is whack) boarded a Delta flight in Atlanta when she decided that then was the best moment to play the diva card and refused to put her seat belt on. To which I say: Really? This is the hill you want to die on? TMZ reports:

We’re told Whitney refused and “got diva” on the crew member … until another crew member came over and warned Houston that if she didn’t buckle up, she would have to get off the plane. Whitney eventually allowed one of the crew members to grab the buckle and fasten it for the singer — and the plane was then cleared for takeoff. Sources close to the singer tell us … Whitney “overreacted a little bit after missing an earlier flight but she’s still 100% sober and was on the way to Detroit for her first day of shooting a new movie.”

Look, I know air travel is an absolute pill and all, but … seriously? Buckling a seat belt? That’s what got to you? This was the major indignity that set you off? Come on, it’s a tiny strap of fabric that runs over your crotch. If you’re gonna go all diva in the middle of a flight, at least make it about something important, like those tiny bottles of booze they give. It’s like bitch, for reals? How am I supposed to get mid-air shitty when you’re giving me baby’s first 40? (I’m a nervous flyer. I NEED ALL THE BOOZE.)

Whitney Houston seeks help … again!

Poor Whitney Houston, the soul stirring crooner (and a favorite here at PopBytes) is seeking treatment in a rehabilitation facility yet again. Reportedly the singer entered an outpatient program ten days ago, on a voluntary basis, to begin work on a ‘long-standing recovery process.’ This is just the latest entry into a very public battle Houston has been going through for quite some time now, she went from a mega established chart-topping career two decades ago to a complete 180 descent, including bouts with drugs, alcohol, and her fair share of abusive relationships, notably with her now ex-hubby Bobby Brown.

The singer has been through this before, in 2004 and 2005 the singer entered rehab programs, checking herself out prematurely both times. These stints in rehab came after her attempt to sneak a bag of pot past screeners at a Hawaii airport in 2000 and then a notorious interview with Diane Sawyer two years later, revealing sordid details of her drug driven life, including admittance to using not only marijuana but also cocaine, pills and alcohol but not crack, since that’s whack! She famously also said in that interview that the ‘party is over’, is the party really over now?

Whitney Houston has checked herself in to an out-patient rehabilitation program … TMZ has learned. A source directly connected with Whitney tells us … Houston enrolled in the program around 10 days ago. The program allows Houston to go out in public … as long as she has a monitor. Just last weekend, Houston was enjoying herself at a Prince concert in L.A. … with her daughter right by her side. Our source is not saying why Houston is seeking treatment … but we’re told, “She’s cleansing herself to get ready for a new movie.” SOURCE
